take two

Back to the pediatrician we went today. This time with two Wardlings, Penny and Jacob. Penny's funk has progressed into a sinus infection and Jacob has Pneumonia. Yeah for us! On a funny note, Jacob asked our Pediatrician if she was a Russian spy.

motherhood, what did i sign up for?

Who knew that having teenagers was this time consuming and emotionally draining.  The idea of having babies, when we were newlyweds was sweet, but what a young gal (like I used to be...) didn't think about, was that they grow up. They turn into children and then teenagers. Those sweet little babies that smiled up at you when you nursed them, with milk running out of their mouths, now can eat you out of house and home. They are smelly and needier than ever.  DO not get this post wrong. I love my babies/children/teenagers/bottomless pits more than ever. But when are they going to figure out that in my old age, I am set in my ways. When my mind is made up, I will rarely change the decision. Stop trying to argue your way out of chores. I don't care that you just did the dishes, I need you to do them again...because we've had another meal. And had the dishes been cleaned right, after the first time you washed them, I wouldn't make you rewash them. You wouldn't have to put up so much laundry if you a) wore the same jeans more than once before you sent them down to be laundered and 2) didn't wait until you didn't have any clean underwear left before sending down your dirties. I wouldn't make you put the clean clothes back up into your room, if you didn't send them down to be washed in the first place. If you had flushed the toilet after you peed in it, I wouldn't make you go back upstairs to flush it. It is your job to take out the garbage, so take the initiative to take it out, before it is heaping and I won't have to yell at you. Nor would I make you go back outside to put the garbage in the can if you hadn't placed the bags beside it the first go round.  Before you go have fun, your room must be clean. No negotiations on that one. Also- when I can't find your little sister's crap, (like matching Sunday shoes) because you have crammed it (them) into the farthest darkest part of your closet or in some weird place in your room, then I tend to go ape shiitake crazy. There are dozens more scenarios like the ones listed above, that has made living in the brown house hard lately. I'm sure that one day the memory of stepping on legos, reminding teenagers to wear their retainers, or for children to brush their teeth/hair, or to put on deodorant will be a fond one but, "today is not that day." (what movie???)

coughy cough

Penny has a bad cough. The cough has gone on for several days (4) now. Took her in to the Pediatrician today (and saw our friends Mary and Sylvia!!). They gave her a breathing treatment in the office, which cleared up some of the wheeze in her chest, a Rx was written and we were on our way. Poor gal fell asleep on the way to get her meds. She stayed asleep in the basket for awhile. Shoes perked her up though.

boys party

Jacob was so excited about his birthday, that he invited everyone and his brother to join him for a party. I am not a big party planning gal. I enjoy quiet birthdays. My children do not. The more the merrier and since we've had quiet birthday parties for some time, I suppose that I had to give into their request of having friends over. I mean really, when on your children's birthday wish list, it is marked #1 to have friends over, a Mom must comply right? Since the boys' birthdays are a mere 10 days apart, they got a joint party. We had some pals over, made bow and arrows, made s'mores and let the boys go. They shot at the bullseyes, ran around with their buddies in our forest of a back yard and had a blast.  I liked the fire myself and bow/ arrows turned out great. PVC pipe, nylon twine, and some electrical tape, with some dowels make awesome bow and arrows. They really work too!!

Happy birthday boys!!

Jacob turns 9

Jacob is 9! Holy crow! He still loves all things Star Wars. He doesn't like cake, so we just had icecream. For dinner he wanted Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and we all had to eat it. We so love this kid!!

Happy Birthday our Padawan!!

scout accident

He was playing indoor soccer, with his scout troop and the young men at church, and fell on his wrist.  It damaged his scaphoid bone in his wrist. He has to wear the cast for 3 weeks, then get another xray to see if he needs to wear the cast longer.

This is not Josh's xray. This is courtesy google images. The scaphoid is in what is called the Snuffbox of your hand. (interesting.)

Penny turns 7~

dr.'s appts and saying goodbye

This week was full of appointments for the wardlings. We started with an eye appointment for Josh and Penny.

Then Libby had her braces removed. And a retainer to get.

Then Erin had her wisdom teeth removed...

Jacob was the only wardling without an appointment this week.

We do have some sad news...We had to say goodbye to Toto this week. He didn't die, we just found him a new home. That rascal kept digging out of our yard and wandering in the neighborhood. We have met alot of neighbors this way, but not the way to meet them. He got out one day last week and after about 30 texts to the neighbor, we found out that she was apart of a rescue group on FB. She posted his picture and within an hour, we had a hit. We met up last Saturday evening and he is now with them. The younger 3 wardlings took it the hardest. We know it is for the best, but totally sucks when Mom gives your dog away.

(Toto is the white dog.)
