for kelsey & josh

seat cushion

I normally do not make seat cushions. They are not my favorite things to make. I was asked by a gal at church, in February, to make a seat cushion for house. I agreed. I gave her yardage amounts that were needed, along with the other supplies necessary to finish this project. To my surprise, she chose stripes. I hate working with stripes. Every one needs to be lined up, the project requires extra fabric, and it just is more work. I ended up using every inch of fabric, along with 10 yards of rope to make the piping. yes, i made ten yards of piping for that bad boy. I think the cushion came out nicely. I am in no hurry to make another one, anytime soon.

All tuckered out from a day at the pool.

libby is 15

Libby turned 15 in July. She and our friend share a birthday. I think she had a good day. She spent the week before at the beach with a good friend from middle school. We love you Libby!!

quick beach trip

lorax

This years theme for camp is a dr. suess one.  Our ward chose the Lorax.  Here is the flag that I made for our girls...

40!

Clyde turned 40 this year! We weren't able to see him on his day, due to a baseball tournament, but we saw him a few days later. Happy birthday sweetheart!!

scout camp

Apparently the slush puppies, were what made Clyde's stay bearable at camp this year.
It is hard to believe that Josh is old enough to go to overnight, week long scouts.  He earned 5 merit badges that week. It was wet and humid, but he still had fun. Clyde stayed for the first few days, and then other dads came.  On Thursday night, camp has a family night. I went with the younger 2 wardlings. When Josh saw us, he didn't allow me to come to a complete stop in the van, before he had reached in the car window to hug me.  He said, "When I get home, the first thing I am going to do is shower!" To be honest, I was a bit grossed out that he hadn't really showered for the past 4 days.  However, I was really grossed out when he told me he wore the same socks all week long. I packed him 6 pairs and when I did his laundry, they were still cleanly, wrapped up together. His clothes were dirtier than our 3 complete trek outfits for the 4 of us who went on trek.  Amazing! He didn't just come home with dirty clothes, but athlete's foot as well...gross!

I have learned the differences between girls camp and scout camp. While there are girls who do not shower, boys are indeed stinkier. The scout camp is more relaxed on the boys getting to places with the expectation that they get to class.  The girls have to be led and pampered. Our girls camp, is nice, but it is more of a princess camp. The women of the wards and stake work hard to make sure that everyone is as comfortable as possible. Boys...you are on your own!

kings dominion

Baseball tournaments are in full swing this summer. One of the trips Clyde took, he was able to take Josh along. My brother G and my fellas went to kings dominion after one of their tournaments in VA. Josh was brave getting on a few of the scarier rides. He didn't get on a few that Clyde and G rode. I am glad that they had fun! I am not a roller coaster gal, so anytime they can go without me, I am thrilled!

appalachian hike

Usually at camp, the older girls (4th years) go on a big hike on the Appalachian trail.  Our ward decided that they wanted to take all the yw, who wanted to go, on the hike before camp. Our girls had a blast. I swiped a few pictures from fb, with our girls in them. They saw wild horses, had horrible rain, it was cold, and they had to pee outside. I was a bit nervous with them needing to carry everything on them, but they did great and are anxiously awaiting next year's hike.

dress like me

Dress like me get free chicken!
I only had the younger two wardlings with me that night. The girls were hiking and Josh was at camp. I had to talk the Jacob into dressing up, but once we had visited one restaurant, he said..."I want seconds!" So, we visited one more. thanks chic-fil-a!

mary poppins

A good friend of ours turned 30, on Libby's birthday. Her husband threw her a Mary Poppins themed party. This was our gift t her.

fairy 2

We finished up another fairy. I am bad with Tinkerbelle's friends' names.  I think this one controls water. This one was fun to make. I am glad she turned out so well.

fairy 1

Another Tinkerbelle fairy was made. This skirt, which you can't see from the photo, has about 7 petals for her skirt. This one turned out nicely and was simple to make. Thank goodness!!

from our garden

I did plant a garden this year. I have gotten squash and a few zucchini. I worked so much this summer, that I didn't even tie my tomatoes up. I watched a squirrel pluck my perfect tomato of the vine and flip me off as he ran away with it in his mouth. dang squirrels!

favorite machine

This is my favorite machine at the shop.  It puts such a pretty professional hem in delicate fabric. Olive it!!  About a week and a half ago, Sis. D wanted me to oil it. At the top of the machine there is a gold tube where the oil goes in. Oiling your sewing machine is key to proper machine function. Sis. D told me to fill it up...so I kept filling up the tube and the oil ran down, like it was really thirsty.  I thought there was a reservoir like some of the self oiling machines have, so when it drank the oil, I filled it back up.  All was well until the oil starting leaking from nearly every opening the machine had.  When I turned the machine on, it spit (more like projectile vomited) oil on me.  I thought that I had broken the machine and was prepared to eat some crow and pony up some dough to have it repaired. Thankfully, after sucking out some of the oil with a syringe and sopping it up with several towels, the machine works much better. The downside is that everything  sewn on it has some type of oil spot on it, which totally bites!  Lesson learned...do not over fill the machine with oil!

seminary graduation

Clyde and I were in charge of the decorations and food, for the seminary graduation for the stake.  Clyde had a school dance the same night. We had to divide and conquer two tasks.  I had the wardlings with me. I have mixed feeling about whether or not the younger wardlings actually contributed, until it was time to stake the balloons in the ground. Man was I glad that night was over! After Clyde's dance and the Seminary graduation dance, Clyde hit the road to a baseball tournament.  He had a very long night and I was glad that he made it safe and sound!

play ball!

Baseball tournaments are in full swing for my Clyde and brothers.  We miss Clyde when he is away, but I know he is having a good time with the men.

is it broken?

While at the annual Bur-Mill youth cook-out, to celebrate the end of another school year, Jacob did this to his hand. The swelling and bruising were instant. I got him into our orthopedist, which by now knows us by name, the following afternoon, and good news it wasn't broken.  However, it was badly sprained and he had to wear a finger brace for a while. While he he was getting his finger wrapped in the splint, the guy was trying to talk superheros with Jacob. The guy didn't know that Jacob is now an encyclopedia of superheros.  He actually got schooled  in superhero 101, by a 9 year old.

shaving cream math

This is a good buddy to Jake.  They had some fun on the last day of school with some shaving cream math.  We are happy to learn that these two will be in the same class again next year.

last day of school '12-'13

This has been an interesting school year for the wee wardlings. I think I was more excited that the school year was over, than they were.  The last day of school, each grade presented something and the principal at one time had 3 microphones on and in his had, pumping the children up. The program went on, and on, and on, and on. geesh!  Of course it was raining the last day of school and speaking of rain, it was been quite rainy lately.  I am hoping that the rain stops, so that we can get theses wardlings to the pool!

the v on snow white

By now, making princess dresses has become 2nd nature.  Lately, there is one thing per dress that kicks us down. On this dress, it was the waist.  This v to be exact.  After 3 tries, I was able to put it in and have the v lay flat. On my first try, it looked like she was a he, if you know what I mean. I am glad this one is finished.

fairy godmother

We are still working on princesses at the shop. This is Cinderella's fairy godmother.  My favorite part is the tip on her hood.

licorice's herd

Our stray delivered 4 cats on Easter Sunday. Here they are snuggling up to their mother. It will be sad for the Wardlings when the kittens go to other homes. Two will be leaving this next weekend... any takers for the other 2??

team Daniels

Clyde has a newby on his 8th grade teaching team. She was named as new teacher of the year. So Clyde and the team all showed their support to her by wearing track clothes labeled with team Daniels on it. What a good group of coworkers!!

slumber party

Jake had a buddy over for a slumber party. Josh's camp out was rained out that same night, so we combined the sleepover with a campout, in our living room.

Downton Abby party

The YW had a Downton Abbey party this past month. Clyde was our version of Carson. I helped as a maid and our girls were just beautiful Ward sisters.
